SONY SOUNTINA

SONY SOUNTINA
Sony will release a spectacular new speaker system in Japan as early as June 20th. The so-called Sountina (a combination of the words sound and fountain) comes in the shape of a glass tube, which is 184.5 cm tall. To be more specific, the device measures 325×184.5×325mm and weighs 12.5 kg.
Sony said today they plan to sell their stylish speaker not only to affluent individuals but also to hotels, department stores and similar facilities. The Sountina is supposed to vibrate and produce high quality audio, which spreads 360 degrees around the device. On the bottom of the tube, LEDs in amber, purple and blue are installed. The light is reflected by a steel plate located on top of the speaker. The LED colors can be change with a remote control.
Buyers also get a subwoofer (13cm), a medium speaker (7cm), and a tweeter made of organic glass. The frequency response is 50Hz – 20 kHz. Inputs include analog RCA, digital coax, optical TOS and 2 channel linear PCM (stereo).
Oh, and the price is $9,600 (1,050,000 Yen).

MOBILE PHOTO PRINTER

ZINK TECHNOLOGY
Although you probably haven't shaken a Polaroid picture in quite some time, a bit of that allure is reportedly headed to your handhelds, as Massachusetts-based ZINK looks to deliver a pocket-sized printer that can be "embedded in any device" and shoot out photos sans ink. The sensational sounding product will initially be used to print 2- x 3-inch color photographs, and interestingly enough, won't require a single drop of liquid to form the images. In ZINK's system (another pic after the break), "images are created when a heated printer head comes into contact with a sheet of specialized paper," which is actually a polymer containing three crystalline layers. Varying temperatures and pressure points create the pixels of color, and just in case you figure out your latest printout doesn't showcase your eye color as well as you'd hoped, it's recyclable. The company's first offerings will likely be offered in a $99 standalone format or as a $199 camera / printer hybrid, while the snazzy paper will run you $19.95 for a pack of one hundred, but we're definitely holding off on this here invention until we see just how impressive (or not) the printed results actually are. As is the case with many cameras these days, the EasyShare V610 has built-in memory instead of a bundled memory card. The V610 has 32MB of built-in memory (of which only 28MB can be used for photo storage), which holds fourteen photos at the highest quality setting. Despite that, you'll still want to buy a memory card, and I suggest a 256MB or 512MB card as a good place to start. The V610 uses Secure Digital or MultiMedia cards, and a high speed memory card is not a required purchase.

PARROT PARTY SPEAKER

9 August 2007 - Parrot, the makers of all things Bluetooth, are pushing their credentials even harder with the launch of the Parrot Party, a light and compact mobile wireless speaker. But can the sound impress as much as the company's BoomBox? We get listening to find out.
Small, compact and shaped like a dog bone - it's about the size of a drinks flask - the main focus of the Parrot party, is that it allows you to send your music to it from any Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP) music source such as a mobile phone, MP3 player or PC with just one click and then enjoy the results.
This isn’t Parrot's first wireless speaker – their Sound System and Boombox have previously been launched in the UK, but it is their first portable offering, and at 23cm long, weighing 620 grams and with a 4-hour rechargeable battery it is certainly that.
Despite being lightweight, the Parrot Party delivers surprisingly good sound performance via the Class D-amplifier and two 2 x 3 Watt wide-band speakers.
In addition to the normal mode, there are two sound features which promise you more for your money; "Stereo Widening", which enlarges the stereophony, and "Virtual SuperBass" which promises to reinforces the bass frequencies.
In practice and they do add something to the overall noise, however neither should be the main reason for buying the Parrot Party. We aren't sure why they bother with the choice apart from then saying you've got two more buttons to press. Hey if it's good you are going to want it on all the time.
If you don’t have a Bluetooth Stereo enabled device then you can still play your music wirelessly by using a dongle, and there is a line-in port too

L.G X-NOTE LAPTOP

L.G X-NOTE LAPTOP
LG just rang our Pavlovian bell with the introduction of their latest XNOTE laptop, the TX. This ultra-portable laptop weighs in at just 2.4-pounds yet throws down a 12.1-inch WXGA LCD, 60GB disk, up to 2GB RAM, and Ge force Go 7300 all powered by a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium-M. And near as we can tell from the Babelrean translation, it also features 802.11a/b/g, Blue tooth 1.2, three USB ports, and a 5-in-1 memory card slot. And because it's Korean, they also slap in a DMB-module for that mobile digital TV chill. Yeah, it's no Core Duo, but it'll do. More pics after the break.

LAPTOP COUMPUTER

LAPTOP COUMPUTER

Laptops began from a desire to have a full-featured computer that could be easily used anywhere. Their predecessor was called the luggable. These all-in-one systems could be easily transported, but were heavy and usually were not battery powered. The CRT was one of the major reasons luggables were so large and heavy, but the use of a full-size desktop motherboard with room for ISA expansion cards was another size factor.
It was the transition to LCD and plasma displays that permitted the luggable to shrink in size and become the first real laptop, though at first still without internal batteries. Battery technology improvements and the introduction of smaller devices such as the 3.5-inch floppy disk permitted a gradually more compact and sophisticated complete portable system

DESKTOP COUMPUTER

DESKTOP COUMPUTER

A desktop computer is a personal computer (PC) in a form intended for regular use at a single location, as opposed to a mobile laptop. Prior to the wide spread of microprocessors a computer that could fit on a desk was considered remarkably small. Today the phrase usually indicates a particular style of computer case. Desktop computers come in a variety of styles ranging from large vertical tower cases to small form factor models that can be tucked behind an LCD monitor. In this sense, the term 'desktop' refers specifically to a horizontally-oriented case, usually intended to have the display screen placed on top to save space on the desk top. Most modern desktop computers have separate screens and keyboards. A specialized form of desktop case is used for home theatre systems, incorporating front-panel mounted controls for audio and video.

WONDER OF COUMPUTER

WONDER OF COUMPUTER

Aiken's computer, originally named the IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator and later the Harvard Mark I, ran at the pace of three calculations per second, a turtle compared to today's simplest digital calculators.
In 1944 the speed was considered unbelievably fast. According to a New York Times article, "At the dictation of a mathematician, it will solve in a matter of hours equations never before solved because of their intricacy and the enormous time and personnel which would be required to work them out on ordinary office calculators."
The first two problems the computer tackled were from physics and astronomy: calculating integrals and producing numbers to be used to design a telephoto lens.
Later the computer worked on problems associated with magnetic fields, radar, and a top secret equation from scientists at Los Alamos Laboratories, N.M., concerning the implosion of the atomic bomb.
While the machine was running, the ticking sound of thousands of registers turning filled the Physics Department basement. "It sounded like a clickety-clackety rhythm band," said Anthony Oettinger '51, PhD '54, Gordon McKay Professor of Applied Mathematics, who was one of Aiken's graduate students.
The giant machine ran 24 hours a day. Whenever it stopped, a bell would ring, alerting one of the people tending it to press a button or turn a knob to prompt the computer to move on to the next step. Often Aiken would pop out of his nearby office, which was filled with awards, to see what was going on.
On Aug. 14, 1944, the University formally dedicated the computer and it continued to run for 14 more years. Aiken was involved in the construction of three more computers, as well as establishing at Harvard the world's first full-scale degree program in what we now call computer science.
Now, more than 50 years later, part of the Mark I sits in the lobby of the Science Center, another section is in the Smithsonian Museum of American History, and the last part is in IBM's historical collection.
